Israeli education vis-à-vis the Palestinians, by Nurit Peled-Elhanan, 15. April 2009, Vienna, Austria

Lecture by Nurit Peled-Elhanan Nurit Peled-Elhanan is an Israeli peace activist. She is a lecturer in language and education at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and member of the Parents Circle-Families Forum, a platform for dialogue and co-operation between Israeli and Palestinian families who have lost relatives because of attacks of violence on both sides. Her daughter, Smadar, was the victim of a suicide bombing in Jerusalem in September 1997. Nurit Peled-Elhanan is a laureate of the 2001 Sakharov Prize for Human Rights and Freedom of Speech, awarded by the European Parliament, which she shared with the Palestinian writer, the late Izzat Ghazzawi. As a professor of education Peled-Elhanan has conducted extensive research on the textbooks used in Israel. She is involved with the new association ICEO (International Committee on Education and Occupation), a joint educational project called Education as Dialogue, which she co-chairs with Professor Sami Adwan of Bethlehem University. Her lecture will be given in English and a German translation will also be available, if necessary.
