Aktivist:innen aus drei Organisationen von Wehrdienstverweigerer:innen, Yesh Gvul ("es gibt eine Grenze"), Mesarvot („Verweigern“) und Ani Seravti („Ich verweigerte“), erzählen wie sie den Widerstand gegen den Militärdienst in der israelischen Armee und gegen die Besatzung Palästinas organisieren. Sie berichten über die Anfänge der Bewegung und die aktuelle Situation. Sie diskutieren, wie angesichts des Massakers in Gaza, der durch den zionistischen Staat zu verantwortenden Hungersnot und der masssiven Landnahme im Westjordanland eine Bewegung unter Soldat:innen und in der Bevölkerung angestoßen werden kann, die sich dem zionistischen, militärischen Komplex verweigert.

Das israelische Militär ist das Rückgrat des zionistischen Staates, der Besatzung Palästinas und der Apartheid. Das zeigt sich in der umfassenden Militarisierung der Gesellschaft und findet Ausdruck im zionistischen Sicherheitsnarrativ, mit dem auch der Krieg und die Kriegsverbrechen in Gaza sowie die anhaltende Militärpräsenz, Drohungen und Repressionen gegen Palästinenser:innen im Westjordanland gerechtfertigt werden.
Die Bewegungen der Wehrdienstverweigerer:innen repräsentiert einen Teil der israelischen Bevölkerung, der sich weigert, sich an Besatzung und Vertreibung und am Morden in Gaza und im Westjordanland zu beteiligen. Sie zeigen damit, dass es kleine Widerstandszellen gegen den militanten Zionismus und die Besatzung Palästinas in Israel gibt. Ihre Aktivitäten zeigen Perspektiven zur Überwindung des zionistischen Staates und seiner Ideologie in einem gemeinsamen, demokratischen Staat aller in der Region lebenden Menschen.
In den Erfahrungen der Werdienstverweigerer:innen manifestiert sich darüber hinaus, wie das israelische Regime mit Bürger:innen umgeht, die sich der offiziellen Staatsdoktrin und Militärdienst widersetzen. Die vom Staat verhängten Gefängnisstrafen unterstreichen, dass es im hoch militarisierten Apartheidstaat Israel niemals Demokratie und Gerechtigkeit geben kann. Nicht für die Palästinenser:innen und auch nicht für Jüd:innen, die die zionistische, ultranationalistische Agenda nicht unterstützen.
Refusing service in the Israeli occupation army

In the online discussion, activists from three organizations of conscientious objectors in Israel, Yesh Gvul („there is a limit“), Mesarvot (“Refusing”) and Ani Seravti (“I refused”) give an insight into how they organize resistance against military service in the Israeli army and against the occupation of Palestine. They will talk about the beginnings of the movement and its current situation in light of Israel‘s massive mobilization and war crimes in the war in Gaza and the increasing attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank. Three activists will describe their experiences as conscientious objectors and discuss how, in view of the massacre and the famine in Gaza for which Israel holds responsible, a movement can be initiated among the soldiers and the Israeli population to reject the Zionist military complex.

The Israeli military is the backbone of the Zionist state, the occupation of Palestine and apartheid. This is reflected in the extensive militarization of Israeli society and is expressed in Israel‘s security narrative, which is also used to justify the war and war crimes in Gaza as well as the ongoing military presence, threats and repression against Palestinians in the West Bank.
The organizations Yesh Gvul („there is a border“), Mesarvot („Refusing“) and Ani Seravti („I Refused“) represent a part of the Israeli population that refuses to serve in the military in the occupied territories, that refuses to participate in the occupation and expulsion and that is not willing to participate in the war and killing in Gaza and the West Bank.
Their refusal to serve in the military is of crucial importance: because they show that there are small resistance cells against militant Zionism and the occupation of Palestine in Israel. Their activities thus also point to a potential for overcoming the Zionist state and its ideology in a common, democratic state of all people living in the region. In addition, the stories of the conscientious objectors prove how the Israeli regime deals with citizens who oppose the official state doctrine and refuse the military service all citizens of Israel have to engage in. Their experiences in prison underline the fact that there can never be democracy and justice in a highly militarized apartheid state. Not for the Palestinians and not for Jews who do not support the Zionist, ultra-nationalist agenda.
